Your Chocolate Christmas Cake

It is yet again that special time of the year!  In our 175th year of existence, we at Bensdorp wish to celebrate this festive season with you in style.  This Christmas, share with your loved ones the joy of our simple, yet delicious, Chocolate Sultana Cake.  In it is our fine Bensdorp Red Peru Cocoa Powder, which adds to your creation a rich cocoa flavor and an attractive dark reddish color, perfect for the season.

Cake Ingredients

1 cup self-raising flour

½ cup sugar

2 eggs

¾ cup semi skimmed milk

60g butter

2 tablespoons Bensdorp Red Peru Powder

1 tsp of Baking powder

1 cup sultanas (soaked 2 hours before use)

Cake Method

Beat eggs and sugar well. Add milk and sultanas and mix well.

Add mixture to sifted flour and cocoa. Mix well.

Pour mixture into lined cake tin. Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.


Icing Ingredients

270g icing sugar

25g of Ecuador cocoa powder

50g butter

25ml of milk

Icing Method

Beat butter in large bowl until fluffy. Gradually beat in 2/3 of the sugar.

Beat in milk and vanilla. Add cocoa and remaining sugar; beat until blended.

Thin with more milk if necessary.


Cover cake with icing and enjoy your Bensdorp Chocolate Sultana Cake.
